10,000- and 15,000-RPM SAS Drives Now Certified for StoneFly IP SANs, With Options to Combine With SATA to Meet Diverse Enterprise Storage Requirements

San Diego – Sept. 19, 2006 –StoneFly™, Inc., a leading supplier of integrated IP storage area network (SAN) systems and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dynamic Network Factory, Inc. (DNF), today announced it has certified and will begin offering 10,000- and 15,000-RPM Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) drives for use with select IP SAN configurations to support transaction-intensive as well as high-definition video streaming and other business-critical applications requiring high disk performance. At the same time, the new SAS drives also provide improved IP SAN options for tiered storage flexibility.

Offering improved disk performance to StoneFly customers at small-to-mid-size enterprises (SMEs) as well as departments of large corporations, the new SAS drives are available in capacities ranging from 36 to 300GB and are designed to deliver enterprise-class performance. Featuring a point-to-point topology, each SAS drive offers a maximum bandwidth of 3Gb/s along with pin-for-pin compatibility with high-capacity serial ATA (SATA) disk drives. This connection compatibility gives organizations the option to mix and match SATA and SAS disk drives in the same chassis to allow each storage system to be utilized in both performance- and capacity-oriented applications.

“IP SAN users at all levels can now take advantage of the performance of SAS for their most demanding applications, while also leveraging the affordability of SATA for secondary storage at the same time,” said Mo Tahmasebi, CEO of DNF. “The bottom line is that StoneFly’s new SAS offerings provide yet another way for IT managers to customize their storage according to their applications, using a tiered-storage model.”

SAS support will be available first in StoneFly’s Modular Storage Concentrator (MSC) product line, and will roll out to the full Stonefly product line in the fourth quarter. The ValueSAN, StoneFly’s entry-level MSC IP SAN, will be available in SAS configurations this fall. ValueSAN is a low-cost yet powerful IP SAN system for advanced, enterprise-class storage networking that scales over time. Starting at 2TB and scaling to 30TB in a single node, the ValueSAN also scales by adding Storage Concentrator nodes.

ValueSAN and other StoneFly IP SAN configurations include a StoneFly Storage Concentrator; StoneFly Snapshot and Reflection synchronous mirroring software; block-level virtualization; and the StoneFusion Intelligent Network Storage Platform, which offers comprehensive storage services such as centralized storage management, storage consolidation, access control, volume management, mirroring and provisioning to present SAN storage to hosts as local disks.
